In molecular biology, transcription is the process by which genetic information from DNA is transferred to messenger RNA (mRNA). During transcription, RNA polymerase synthesizes a complementary strand of RNA based on the DNA template. This mRNA serves as a blueprint for protein synthesis during subsequent processes, such as translation, allowing genes to be expressed and proteins to be produced in the cell.
