The mountain chain that extends through Latin America is known as the Andes mountains. Running over 7,000 kilometers (4,300 miles) along the western edge of South America, the Andes is the longest continental mountain range in the world. This range is home to diverse ecosystems, rich mineral resources, and indigenous cultures. Major countries with portions of the Andes include Argentina, Chile, and Peru.
