The largest land predator is the polar bear (Ursus maritimus). Found primarily in the Arctic regions, polar bears are adapted to their cold environments, with thick fur and a layer of blubber for insulation. They are skilled hunters, primarily feeding on seals but also scavenging when necessary. Polar bears can weigh between 900 to 1,600 pounds (400 to 720 kg) and have large paws to help them traverse snowy terrain. As apex predators, they play a significant role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystem. Unfortunately, they are currently classified as vulnerable due to climate change and shrinking ice habitats.
